Technical support and FAQ
Does the Lighting iPhone 5s and iPad air?
The Lighting Passport does not work with those two devices because they use 64 bit technology and the app has not been designed to work on that platform yet. We will have a working app on those devices eventually.
A good news for 64-bit iDevices!
We've tried iOS7.1, the transmission-rate bug has been corrected.
Apple plans to release iOS7.1 in the middle of March.
Before the date, we've made a temporary solution in SGM V1.1.0(Will release before the end of Jan.) to avoid the system bug.
Why isn't my new APP installing on IPad?
For apps that freeze while installing or stay in a OPEN status, it is easy to fix and you do not need to reset. Plug the iPad into your computer, open iTunes and go to your iPad's apps tab. The iPad desktop emulation will appear to the right and the list of apps on the left. It will say to update if they need updating. Click the update button on all the ones that need to be updated, including the App.
Can I change the integration time?
Yes, you can change the integration time by going to setting, select integration Time, put the Automatic mode off sliding the blue button to off then select the integration time from 6 millisecond to 16 second (16000 millisecond) *Remember to make a new dark calibration after changing integration time
*Logically you want to use longer integration time when you are below 100LUX
or shorter integration time if you are above 50000LUX to avoid saturation of the CCD.
What is the best distance and angle for taking an illuminance measurement?
According to ITRI, the National Lab in Taiwan which is the equivalent to the NIST in USA, the test was conducted at 65cm from the irradiance standard NIST traceable lamp and aligned with the center of the bulb. With these conditions, the accuracy should be per the ITRI test report here or our promised specifications;
illuminance: ± 3% from 100 Lux to 50000 Lux
CCT: ± 2%
X,Y coordinate: ± 0.002 @1000Lux
NB: As you go off axe with the light source center, LUX reading will be affected, same applies with distance. It's recommended that you always measure from the same distance and angle.
Can I do a background subtraction of the room when I want to measure a specific light source?
Yes, but you have to consider 2 conditions during background subtraction to get correct results.
1-The light source you want to measure has to be higher in intensity (LUX) then the background light you want to subtract.
2-The light source you want to measure needs to be close enough to the white entrance of the spectrometer. We suggest to be a few cm to 1 meter away, or for USA customer, a few inches to 2 or 3 feet.
If you don't meet the 2 above conditions, you might not get results from CCT, CRI CQS.
Background subtraction will increase accuracy of your spectrum by reducing interference of other ambient light. Don't forget to turn off the light source you want to measure during background subtraction.
If you want to deactivate the background subtraction data, come back to the screen with the blue bulb, click on the bulb to turn it blue and you can measure again without background subtraction.
The background subtraction is not designed for background light stronger then the light source you want to measure.
What is the difference between the Lighting Passport Standard version
and Flagship version？
If your mobile device already supports BLE(Bluetooth Low energy), like the
iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 +, you can choose the Lighting Passport Standard version. It's light, portable, and well worth its value.
The Lighting Passport Flagship version is perfect for the frequent user because it comes packaged with an iPod Touch for a better user experience. It also can be used separately and remotely as a Standard version.
How to get the APP?
You can search "Spectrum Genius Mobile" ,or use QR code we provide,or
input keywords(i.e. Lighting Passport, Asensetek) in APPLE App Store to get our FREE APP . Android version APP will be released at the end of 2013.
What’s the communicating protocol between
Lighting Passport and mobile device?
We adopt BLE(Bluetooth Low Energy,BT4.0). It can provide considerably
reduced power consumption and make devices stable and durable.
Does Lighting Passport support my mobile device?
Lighting Passports can be used with iOS devices as of now, including
iPhone4S ,iPhone5 + ,iPod touch 5,iPad mini ,the New iPad generation 3 with Bluetooth 4.0 and above version.
Since the iPod touch 5 16G doesn't come with a back camera, we suggest that you choose to use the iPod touch 5 32G and above version for complete user experience. Please check the detail specification on http://www.apple.com/. We will support most devices with BLE function soon.
Does Lighting Passport support Android mobile devices?
Google has Just announced that Android 4.3 will support BLE(Bluetooth Low
Energy). If your device is Android4.3-based and with BT4.0 module, you
can normally use Lighting Passport with Android mobile device with the Spectrum genius Mobile android version that will be released at the end of 2013.
What's the longest distance for remote measurement of Lighting
It depends on the amount of interference. We suggest that the distance
between the mobile device and Lighting Passport be less than 7
Is there a suggested distance between the Lighting Passport and the
The distance is related to light intensity and light pattern. For illuminance, the Lighting Passport can accurately measure light source from 100 to 50,000 lux, and you can adjust distance based on this. Some companies provide the illuminance (lux) of 1 meter, 2 meters and 3 meters. For outdoor lighting, you can measure the light source from the height of a human body. For indoor lighting, you can measure the light source at 80~100 cm. We also suggest that you use auto integration mode to save time for distance adjustment.
Can I use the Lighting Passport to measure “Lumen"?
According to the approved standard(EX: LM-79), you need an integral sphere to measure "Lumen". There is no portable meter that can really measure "lumen"(total flux) of the luminaire. Lighting Passport can measure illuminance which is a good reference of lighting intensity.
Is the Lighting Passport accurate?
First of all, the Lighting Passport is a grating based meter with optical
resolution of under 8 nm. That's better than most portable spectrolux meter.
Secondly, there's a complete calibration system including standard
spectrophotometer, standard light source, etc. In our lab, we traced
NIST(National Institute of Standards and Technology) criterion to calibrate
every Lighting Passport before shipment. Lighting Passport also passed the test by notary labs which is like the National Measurement Lab R.O.C, to ensure the accuracy.
Does it have any Safety assurance?
The Lighting Passport has safety certifications including
CE, FCC, SRRC, CB, NCC, VCCI etc.
